Marialite is a rare silicate mineral and the sodium-rich endmember of the scapolite group. Known for its slender, striated crystals and glassy luster, it occurs in high-pressure, high-temperature volcanic environments. It is highly prized by mineral collectors for its bright fluorescence under UV light. Marialite was first described in 1866 for an occurrence in the Phlegrean Volcanic complex, Campania, Italy. It was named by German mineralogist Gerhard vom Rath for his wife, Maria Rosa vom Rath.
